Race # 22 Results by John Sainz
October 9, 2010; There was some good racing going on tonight at Oakland
Valley Speedway. The night started off with our Senior Slingshot class on the
track first and it was Tyler Pirone cruising to his
seventh win this season. The Senior Stock class was out next and it was Vito Iannarella,Sr. picking up the win
for his third, with me right on his bumper. Oh well. In our Junior Clone Class,
Samantha Mattera took the checkered flag for her
second win this season and Tyler Belanger took the win in Junior 1. Good job by
those two. In the Kid Kart class, TJ MacChurch got
the win and fast Robert Mattera took the win in
Rookie Champ.
In the always exciting Lights class, it was
a great battle between Brianna Hasenflue, Brian Rose
and Ian Petry right down to the checkered flag. It
was Brianna crossing the line first, picking up her first win by just over a
tenth of a second. Great race! Junior
Stock, always the fastest class of the night, had a wild finish with leader
Danny Hoeffner getting spun on the last turn of the
race, with Brendan Finley and Dennis Mathews trying to go three wide. Race
finished under checkered/yellow flags, so it went back to last completed lap.
Danny Hoeffner was scored the winner for his twelfth
of the year.
In our Junior 2 class, Colin Belanger
picked up his fourteenth win of the season, but in the second heat race, Sarah Hoeffner and Sean Glennon got
together on the front stretch. Sean Glennon’s kart
was caught by the wall and rode up the wall flipping his kart on top of Sarah Hoeffners kart. Looked scary.
Track personnel were at the scene immediately to free the drivers. Both were
shaken, but none seriously injured. I spoke with both of them and they were OK.
Sarah was able to continue later on that night for her feature, coming in
second. Sean’s kart however was pretty bent up and he could not make the
feature. He did, incredibly, race later on in his Junior Sportsman Champ kart
and got the win. These kids are very tough. Great job by
those two.
In the Heavys
class, it was Bill Wood picking up the win, and in Senior Rookie, Dan Sherlock
picked up his second win in a row. We had a Junior 3 class tonight also, and it
was Carissa June picking up the win over Hali Vandermeulen. In the Junior Slingshot class, Danny Buccafusca returned and picked up his second win in three
weeks. Looked really fast too. Great
job by all the drivers tonight.
