Oakland Valley Speedway

Race Report by John Sainz

April 15,2012: Opening day at the Oakland Valley Speedway was a welcome site for all the racers in attendance today, and they were treated to a great racing surface, very fast, as prepared by John Diotte and his crew. It was good to finally get the points season under way. The show ran very smoothly and finished up right before the showers came. Great job by all the track officials.

The features started off with the Heavys class. It was a very good race with Alex The Axeman Wanerus taking the first checkered flag of the season, in a great battle with Stan Tabaka. Scott Thomas came in third. The Mediums class had some very exciting action as Dan The Man Hoeffner took the win with Roger Belanger following close behind for second. Chris Predmore came home third. The top five were within 1 second of each other. Great race! The Lights class put on another great race and it was Dan the Man Hoeffner leading the field and showing the way to the checkered flag. Steve Gully came up through the field to take second and Dennis Mathews took third. It’s gonna be a great season in both of these classes. Very competitive. In Senior Stock, Mark Stanley got out to an impressive lead, and looked to be coming home for the win, but a late race caution bunched up the field. On the restart, Scott Thomas got a good run on Mark and took the lead with only a few laps left in the race. Scott held off Mark to take the win, Mark was second, with Aaron Turner taking third. Nice run by Aaron. This looked to be the biggest class of the night and should be a great season in this class. There were Clones and Animals here tonight! In the Clone class, which by the way we will be having a Clone series coming up soon, was won by David Crisci with Ashley Mull second. In the Animal Class, a very fast Ryan Edwards took the win over Corey Wood.

The Junior Stock class saw Colin Belanger making his debut in this class, and he started right where he left off in Junior 2, with a dominating performance, taking both heats and feature. Good job Colin. Pat Hayes took second with Patrick Dempsey coming in third. In Junior 3, it was Jared Miller in a close finish winning over Patrick Kelly. Jake Lowther took third. In Junior 2, Tyler Belanger took the win in a great battle with reigning Junior 2 champ, Sean Glennon. Anthony Roselli, who moved up from Junior 1, came home third. Our Junior Rookie was Raeleigh Silvernail. She looked great out there! In Junior 1, TJ MacChurch took the win over Damon Paul. Very close race between these two young men. Our Kid Kart class saw Johnny Diotte,III take the win over Anthony Tresch and Sean Hart,Jr.

In the Champ classes, we had a good young group of Junior 1 Champ drivers, with Robert Mattera taking the win over Devin Greer and Jake Mason, who both moved up from the Rookie Champs this year. They both seemed to do well with the bigger, more powerful Champ karts. In the Junior 2 Champ class, Sean Glennon was our Junior 2 Animal Champ, Anthony Wood took the win for the Junior 2 flathead class with Jessica Mattera taming second and Samantha Mattera third. In Senior Champ, John Sainz took the win over Guy Hodecker. Thanks Guy for coming.

In our Senior Slingshot class, Tony Kawalchuk took home the win by a good margin over Chris VanDuser and Tyler Johnson. Carissa June had an interesting night as she ended up on her side after a wreck. Her crew fixed her up enough for her to finish fourth in the feature. Good job Carissa! Good group of Rookie Slingshots were on hand tonight, as Matt DeRitter took the win over Tighe Sherlock and Mackenzie Tresch. In Junior Slingshot, seven entered and Brandon McGill took home the win in a good race with Jared Labagh. Tommy Zwart took third.
