OVRP Dirt Oval Report

Cuddebackville, NY – After multiple weeks of either rain outs or showers during the night of racing, a dry day finally happened at the Dirt Oval. Going from heavy rains last week to end the show early, to a really dry typical summer track this week. Dust was a big issue in the beginning of the day because the track would not hold any water. The first five or six classes out were somewhat entertaining as every group went into turn 1 and spun out in the middle of the turn. Once drivers started hitting the wall it became a serious problem for the track.

The track first tried using the leaf blower and blowing the loose dust off the track, but that did not bring the results they needed. Next the track was watered heavily enough that it had to be run in again. With a damp appearing track to start the heats, problem seemed solved until the first heat started. Right away the track was back to dusty, luckily not a severe as practice. John Diotte and Jerre Rush both get an A for effort as they tried what they could on the track to keep the dust down; it was just too hot and sunny to make it work! As the night went on, the conditions improved greatly and the track was really coming around again as you will be able to see by the fast lap times lots of classes had.

Lights: Mike Snyder was the one who caught the dust in the worst way. Mike came off of turn 2 slightly too high and caught the loose stuff outside of the groove and smacked the wall really hard. As soon as he hit the wall and started spinning, Jonathan Schweizer had no where to go and plowed right into him. It took him a few minutes to get out of the kart to go get checked by the EMT, but later that night I heard from his father that he was alright.
